Sermorelin
Sermorelin is a Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone. Under the trade name of GEREF, it was FDA approved as a treatment for growth hormone deficiency and as a diagnostic agent to evaluate the pituitary’s ability to secrete growth hormone.
Sermorelin stimulates the pituitary to make more natural growth hormone by increasing the number of cells that secrete growth hormone in the pituitary and by increasing the amount secreted per cell. It is injected subcutaneously usually at night when your body is naturally releasing growth hormone. Sermorelin has a half-life of under 15 minutes. This means that it is quickly metabolized and that there is a one pass effect on your pituitary.
I have read in bodybuilder blogs that Sermorelin can been used more frequently than once a night. The theory is that this gives more of an effect on building muscle as each pulse releases a spurt of natural growth hormone. Either way it is dosed, single or multiple daily pulses, Sermorelin will not have the exaggerated results of exogenous growth hormone. Exogenous growth hormone creates a constant effect on the body. With Sermorelin, since each pulse lasts 15 minutes or less, the body has the ability to recover from the stimulation and keep itself in a better balance. Therefore, Sermorelin is much safer than exogenous growth hormone with less chance of adverse side effects, less expensive and legal to use.
Sermorelin has been associated with many benefits. These may include increased collagen production, better cellular repair of internal organs, rejuvenation of joints and connective tissue, increased bone mass, increased healing capability, increased energy, improved sleep and increased lean body mass.
Sermorelin is administered subcutaneously an hour before bedtime. To maximize its effect, it is advised to avoid fats and carbohydrates 30 minutes on each side of dosing. This dietary restriction can become an issue for someone dosing more frequently.
It may take up to three months of continuous use of Sermorelin for a patient’s pituitary to ramp up to its maximum output of natural growth hormone. If Sermorelin use is discontinued, the pituitary will gradually ramp down its production of natural growth hormone unlike the crash that can happen when stopping exogenous growth hormone.
Sermorelin has been used in the treatment of Fibromyalgia. It is thought that a defective growth hormone response to stress results in an excess production of pro-inflammatory cytokines that are responsible for symptoms associated with Fibromyalgia such as muscle weakness and stiffness. Sermorelin administration may help mitigate symptoms of Fibromyalgia by increasing a patient’s natural growth hormone levels.
